Munns Sly Moore Architects were engaged for the design and documentation
of a 2,100m2 office fitout the Legal Aid ACT Commission. The design of the
fitout was to provide the commission with a functional and flexible office
environment for the next 10 years.
Legal Aid’s existing office was a compartmentalised fitout with staff separated over multiple floors. The relocation and fitout were seen as an opportunity to bring about cultural change to the organisation and provide a modern collaborative working environment.
Public functions were consolidated to a ground floor, including a shop front
to improve accessibility to services, while lawyer’s offices and professional
functions were located on Level 1. Each of practice areas are collocated and
provided with an informal meeting space to encourage the sharing of ideas
and information within their areas, while a central staff café and breakout
space has created a place for interaction for the entire organisation.
Security, circulation and access was designed in close consultation with the
Legal Aid to ensure OH&S requirements for staff, and segregated access for
legal parties, was provided within the fitout.
